In my winter skincare post from a few weeks back I talked about how important it is, especially at this time of year, to be hydrating your skin properly. When I wrote and photographed that post I’d only just started using the Pixi Hydrating Milky Serum and, in all honesty, I didn’t really like it all that much. My opinion on this product has done a complete 180 so I’d like to spend a bit of time today talking about it.
I had huge expectations for this product when I ordered it. It’s so hyped up on social media and is one of Pixi’s most popular products. At £26.00 a bottle it’s also bloody expensive for so little product, so that added to my expectation of greatness. When I first used it I was really, really disappointed. The bottle says to use 4 or so drops and apply before moisturiser. It left my skin feeling tacky and not at all hydrated. I couldn’t understand what I’d done wrong, or if maybe it just didn’t suit my skin. Maybe my skin was just too dry for it to work right? To say I was annoyed is an understatement.
It carried on like this for a few days and then one night I was doing my skin routine and used 4 drops onto freshly toned skin and it felt great. Still a bit tacky, but so much better than it had been before then. When I applied my moisturiser over the top my skin looked amazing, felt hydrated and soft, and I started to see an improvement in the mornings too.
Now, you are meant to use this serum twice a day, but I decided to only use it at night because it was really expensive for me. So maybe the initial slow start had a lot to do with me only using it half the amount you’re meant to, but now I’ve been using it for a few weeks I’m totally sure that, if your skin is agreeable, you can easily get away with only using this product once a day.
In the interest of fairness, I decided to keep using the Pixi Hydrating Milky Serum until the bottle was finished. And now I’m coming very close to the end of it, I wanted to share it with you guys purely because it has been one of the biggest surprises in my skincare for a really long time. It actually is worth all the Internet hype, it really does what it’s meant to, and after giving it a chance to change my initial opinion of it, I can safely say my skin and I love this serum.
It’s also made me want to try other products for this stage of skincare, so at some point I’ll be ordering maybe an oil or another brand serum to compare the differences. I’m pretty attached to the Milky Serum though, so I’m going to see what happens when I finish this bottle and my skin doesn’t have an extra boost. If it really struggles then I’ll be adding this back into my routine and keeping it up for the rest of the winter.
I love it when a product I’m not sure of proves me wrong and becomes a favourite. Has this ever happened to you? What’s your favourite serum/oil for skin? Let me know in the comments and I’ll check them out!
