We all have those days or weeks when we just feel really, really crap, to be honest. It happens to the best of us, and it’s nothing short of pretty upsetting. Whenever I feel less than fabulous, I have a few tried and tested things that I like to do or reach for that never fail to make me feel 100% better about myself, so I thought I’d share them with you guys today and hopefully they might help someone else out too!
Nail that Manicure
One thing that’s sure to make me feel more confident is a good manicure. I think it’s a combination of pampering myself as well as the finished product. I always choose colours that make me feel totally badass and like my best self. And yes, they’re usually blacks or greys! There’s just something so ‘Girl Boss’ about having your nails done that it makes me feel like I really have my life together.
Rock a Red Lip
There’s always a time in a woman’s life when she has to go outside and see people when she’d really rather not. If you have as bad luck as I do then this time is normally also peppered with the danger of running into people who you know have gossiped about you, or possibly the odd ex here and there too. So to make sure I’m feeling like I can slay a dragon, I always opt for a classic red lip and smokey eye when I’m feeling worried about a social event.
For those unconfident days at work, where a red lip or smokey eye is not appropriate (or time savvy) I have a couple of different tricks. Matching or gorgeous underwear is the first one. If I’m honest, a few months ago I stopped wearing bras, so I actually don’t have to match my underwear anymore (liberating when it comes to laundry), but I’ve kept my favourite sets of matching underwear and always reach for them when I need to feel like I’m an adult who has her life together.
Namely, black, lace, leather, anything remotely Morticia Addams. This is my second work-friendly thing to do to boost my own confidence. Simply wearing my favourite clothes makes me feel much more together and bolder. Even if it can’t be seen from the outside, if I know I’m wearing it then I feel bullet-proof.
So those are my own personal tips for boosting my confidence. There are other, longer term things you can do obviously, and learning to love yourself is a huge part of growing up and getting to know yourself. But when you’re simply having a bad morning, an off day, or want to feel even more badass, you can’t go wrong with putting your best look forward and feeling as fierce as you look. A woman’s appearance is so closely linked to her confidence that I’ve found this is the quickest and easiest way to get myself through those more self-conscious days.
