Well that’s the longest title ever! Welcome to Sunday lovely people, where we do lots of selfish things like avoid makeup, bras, and hair brushes. Normally this is the day of the week that makes me feel slightly less beautiful, but recently this has been changing. Now on a Sunday I go to bed feeling really pretty and refreshed and glowing. And all because I now spend 15 minutes every Sunday looking like a Mummy/Zombie lovechild that dunked its face in oil.
Using all these products to try and control my hormonal breakouts has left my skin feeling rather dry and like it hates my very soul, so I thought I’d try a new weekly mask to see if I can make it like me again!
According to Garnier, their SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask delivers a week’s worth of hydration in a skin friendly, serum soaked sheet mask. The blurb says that “In 15 minutes: Skin is intensely rehydrated, skin looks smoother, complexion is radiant. Fine lines appear reduced, skin looks plumper, skin radiance is revitalised.”
That’s some big talk for what is effectively the creepiest looking skin treatment I’ve ever seen in my whole life. But does this little sheet of tissue paper live up to the hype?
Firstly, I think the packaging is great. Each individual mask is wrapped in little foil sachets which is so handy for storing them at home or travelling with them. Then there’s the ingredients – hyaluronic acid, pomegranate extract, castor oil, and witch hazel to name but a few. All of which are great for skin in need of a little boost.
I think Garnier are under-exaggerating when they say “infused with serum” because honestly, on opening the sachet, this mask is soaked to near death in the stuff! The serum itself smells faintly of pomegranates and thankfully, not at all like chemicals. Application is super easy, if a little messy (the mask is really slippery, so I’d recommend applying this in the bathroom over a sink, in case you drop it!) surprisingly though, it adheres to the face really nicely and doesn’t feel insecure.
I worried that with this mask I would totally over-saturate my skin initially and then be left with more breakouts and equally dull looking skin. But that definitely isn’t the case. After removing the mask I massaged the remaining serum into my skin, which seemed to take a lifetime, until it just suddenly disappeared! One second it was there and the next it was gone, and left behind a fresh, if slighty tacky feeling face (the tackiness didn’t last long though).
Every time I cleansed or wore makeup in the following days I felt like that lovely moisturisation would vanish, but amazingly, it didn’t! For a whole week my skin looked healthy and refreshed and I was able to continue with my normal skin care regimen. The following Sunday I did it all over again and the same thing happened.
After a few weeks, I’m confident this mask works for me. Really well actually; the added hydration stops my breakouts being flaky and nasty looking, it doesn’t give me more spots, and now I’m pushing 26, it’s the perfect time to start combatting early signs of ageing, so this is a new regular in my skincare now.
Verdict: 10/10, possibly even a future #LivLoves?
