Hey guys, Sunday fun day and a little something different this week. The lovely Charlie at Beauty Essentials sent me a really cool sounding new gadget that allows you to clean your makeup brushes dry(!) and then reuse them instantly.

The Shadow Switch* is the first in a range of “high quality beauty necessities” and is available on Amazon for £5.99. The price is good, the idea of other products coming out soon is also great. But does this product actually work and allow you to change colours of shadows without using a new brush or proper cleaner? Lets find out!

So the first thing is the packaging. For £5.99 I shouldn’t really complain, but I wish it was a little more upmarket and a little less… amatuerish? That seems like a harsh word, but I think it sums it up.

The instructions say to purchase a refill of the sponge after two months, which seems reasonable. It also says to use the product correctly you should “press and rotate your brush over the Shadow Switch in a circular motion until all traces of colour powder have gone”, which seems a little too good to be true to a girl who’s forever running out of blending brushes!

So does it work? In a word… kind of (think of it as a compound word).

I tested this without applying the shadows to my eye first, just in case. And I wanted to give it a really good test, so I used brightly coloured shadows. After working the shadow into the brush for a minute or so, I followed the instructions for using the sponge and swirled and pressed my used brush until all traces of the shadow were gone. It took quite a bit of work and quite a while, and when I eventually stopped, I cleaned my brush with my Pro Hygiene Collection Brush Cleaner to see how much colour was really left in the bristles. As you can see, it really didn’t do too bad a job:

Verdict: a handy little tool for things like emergencies (read ‘running out of clean brushes’) and travelling. I think this is a great idea, I think the presentation could do with a little more work, but all in all I think it’s not a bad little gadget. 7/10, will be keeping this close by for all those disorganised mornings!

It sounds like such a handy gadget more for those darker smokey eye looks when you need to get some product off but I would still like you use a cleanser once done to fully clean them.

It’s definitely helped me out when I’ve had similar colours and not enough brushes, but I don’t think I’d risk using it for very different colours in case they went muddy! Thanks for reading 🙂
