Today’s post was meant to be about a fruit I dislike and why, but let’s be honest, that’s boring as hell. So I’ve come up with something new to do instead.
A few questions I get asked a lot when I’m out and about is how I look so different without makeup on, how I keep my skin relatively clear now I’ve finally got a handle on my acne, and my favourite “how is your hair so soft?!” So I’ve put together my top 5 hair and beauty products that I simply can’t live without. Leave me a comment and let me know what your favourites are, I’m always interested to try new things!
We’ll start with the obvious – Frank. I love Frank, I love coffee scrub. A match made in heaven! Regular readers will know how much I adore this brand and all their skin care, but for those who haven’t heard of it before, check out my review of the coffee scrub here.
Now, a body brush is possibly the single most useful tool for lazy girls like me. I can’t stand exercise – I’d rather eat a packet of biscuits in front of Netflix than go for a run. And since I work in an office, I do tend to suffer from a shapeless ass. Made worse by the fact that my ass is a predominant feature of my figure. I’ve been body brushing religiously for about 6 months now and I definitely see the cellulite getting better. The evenness of the tone on my thighs has improved, the orange peel look has definitely reduced significantly. I find body brushing works best in circular motions, but you’ve got to be energetic about it. Really work that brush, don’t pussyfoot around it and hope you’ll wake up the next day with no cellulite. This Botanics brush from Boots is a steal at £7.00 as well, so you might as well try it for yourself – grab one here.
The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle range has always been a favourite of mine. I used to use the one specifically for coloured hair, but as my hair got longer it started to become really dry, so I switched to the Reconstructor for damaged hair and it’s a life saver. Black hair can look dull so easily, and this product really gives it an amazing shine and moisture boost. I usually just buy it at my local Co-operative, but Boots just so happen to have it on offer right now, here.
The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is a relatively new product for me, but I love it. It has these tiny particles in it that act as a magnet for makeup, dirt, grease and grime. If I’m wearing especially heavy makeup, then I’ll use one cotton pad soaked in Micellar to remove my makeup, and then a fresh one to really cleanse the skin. I use it every morning as a toner as well to freshen my face before I moisturise and apply my makeup. eChemist have it on offer down from £4.99 here, but I just buy mine from my local Boots store.
And finally, my holy grail of foundations – Mac Studio Sculpt SPF15 Foundation in NC15. When my skin first broke out a few years ago I wanted and needed a lot more coverage from my foundation, so I switched from a lighter covering Mac to this one with added SPF. I wear it everyday, except on days off when I let my skin breathe, and it’s fantastic. The Studio Sculpt is a gel based foundation with medium buildable coverage. On a work day I’ll wear just one thin layer, and on a night out I’ll build it up so I look extra smooth and flawless. Now my skin is better I could probably switch to a lighter foundation, but I have to admit I just really like this product. It’s a great colour for me, it evens my skin tone without making it look too plastic fantastic, and it lasts for ages. For £25.50 I honestly think it’s a fantastic price! I bought my current one about 7 weeks ago now, and I’m only just starting to struggle getting the right amount of product out. Below is a photo I took after making up half my face to show the difference in coverage. It’s not a huge difference, but the skin tone is more even and much less red. Read the reviews and see what you make of it yourself here.
